The Stepfather – 2009

Here we go again with another Hollywood remake, The Stepfather once a 1987 classic starring none other than Terry O’Quinn (Lost’s Locke) gets a 21st century make over, badly.

The plot is still very much the same with sociopath Dylan Walsh looking for the perfect family and getting very upset when it doesn’t go according to plan.

The difference from the original is they have replaced the daughter with a son, with whom has his suspicions that the man claiming to be Dad is nothing more than a fraud and a killer.

The problem with remakes like this is nothing new ever seems to happen, it’s all very clichéd and you can expect nothing less.

It’s see through right from the beginning, not to mention the vast number of plot holes that are littered throughout. We never get an understanding of Walsh’s background or what has led him to prying on innocent families, other than he claims he lost his wife and daughter.

But the one thing that gripes the most is the predictability of the film, you can almost see what is going to happen a mile off. From pushing old ladies down the stairs, to incorrectly revealing your daughter’s name in conversation?

And the only thing that raises a pulse is having to watch Amber Heard parade around for 90 minutes in nothing more than a pair of briefs or a swim suit, OK so maybe it’s not all bad.

At the end of the day this is one thriller/horror that you can steer well clear of.
