The Hangover – 2009
Another buddy comedy, another road trip, another story that follows in the same line as many before it. That might be true, but The Hangover was the kind of screwball comedy that many film fans were craving, and easily the funniest of 2009.
It’s quite simple, four best friends Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug head to Vegas for one night of freedom before Doug ties the knot. They wake up, minus Doug in their hotel room with no recollection of what happened the night before. What happens is a hilarious course of events to find their friend, as well as re-trace their steps from the previous night.
Rarely, and not since Dumb and Dumber and Road Trip, has a film made me laugh continuously out loud. But The Hangover delivers on all and much more, you grow to love the characters, none more so than Alan (Zach Galifianakids) who was brilliant as another iconic buffoon in the same guise as a McLovin.
Most will know how it ends, happily and in the nick of time as always. But rest assured that you move from one laugh to the next in a continuous motion, never does the script stall for any reason. I highly rate this film, and it’s another triumph for director Todd Phillips who brought us Road Trip, another equally funny buddy adventure.

DVD Extras: Audio commentary by director Todd Phillips, and the rest of the guys. There are a couple of featurettes including ‘Map of Destruction’ which gives viewers the chance to look at all locations the boys went too.
There is a short gag reel as well as some missing photos from their camera, but none as funny as the ones shown at the end credits
Blu-ray Extras: As the same for the DVD version.
