After the disaster of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines big things were expected of Terminator Salvation as the franchise was revisited. Christian Bale had already impressed as Batman so could he deliver as John Conner…answer, yes.
Bale was rugged around the edges and assured in the role, however he did lack the charismatic coolness he embraced as Bruce Wayne. Although the two were effectively different characters they are both fighting for something they believe strongly in.
I disagree with those people that likened it to Transformers, although there were some new Terminators we have to realise that they have been developed by Skynet an industry that was growing.
Sam Worthington was OK as a new breed of Terminator, although it seems to me that someone had set his buttons to good and not evil, so that part of the story was a little sketchy. There were some great touches though. The best for me was Big Arnie allowing them to digitally create is face into the body of a Terminator for the ending scenes.
And of course what Terminator film would be complete without the phrase “I’ll be back” and “come with me if you want to live”. All in all it’s enjoyable with some great special effects but ultimately it’s lacking in concrete storyline. Mr. Cameron your job’s still safe!!!
