Stunning
Arnold Schwarzenegger again reprises the role that made him a household name in Hollywood as the machine turned from foe to friend to rescue John Connor from annihilation.
Linda Hamilton returned also having previously escaped death, this time with an out of control John Connor played by teenage new comer Edward Furlong. And introducing Robert Patrick, then relatively unknown but now star of hit drama ‘The Unit’.
What set Terminator 2 apart from many other run of the mill action sequels was the mind blowing special effects. The scene where Patrick’s T-1000 emerges from a burning truck glistening silver only to ripple effect into human form again was brilliant. Cameron though was not new to this type of effect having already worked on something similar in his 1989 hit ‘The Abyss’.
The action sequences in Terminator 2 are well choreographed and explosive in every sense of the word, from the truck chase to the final shoot out at Cyberdyne headquarters. It takes you by the scruff of the neck shakes you around a bit not letting you catch your breath for one second. Not least until the final “hasta la vista baby” rolls off Schwarzenegger‘s tongue.
Terminator 2 was a triumph and easily the best in the franchise so far, as we know we are already part one into a prequel trilogy with Cristian Bale. Only time will tell if that can live up to the success of this one.
