Rise of Planet of the Apes sits at the top

For the second week on the trot Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sits on top of the US box office, grossing over the $100 million mark for America.

Many might have regarded this a bit of a sleeper hit, but it was clear to see that the film was going to do well with the amazing motion capture effects and action sequences that it had to offer. Directed by Rupert Wyatt it stars James Franco and motion capture legend Andy Serkis.

Taking second spot was The Help which managed to haul in $25.5 million, starring Hollywood hot property Emma Stone looks at what happens when a southern town’s unspoken code of rules and behavior is shattered by three courageous women who strike up an unlikely friendship.

Final Destination 5 grabbed third spot with $18.4 million, while The Smurfs came in a fourth with a slightly surprising $13.5 million, putting 30 Minutes Or Less into fifth place with $13 million.

The bigger boys Cowboys And Aliens and Captain America added more cash to their ever growing totals taking out sixth and seventh spot. Crazy Stupid Love took eighth spot in the top ten.

Harry Potter continues to cast its spell over everyone seeing it add another $6.8 million to sit in ninth place and The Change-Up rounds out the ten adding $6.2 million to its gross.
