Chuck Norris and John Travolta join Expendables 2

How does one top last years The Expendables? Well adding as much action muscle as possible to a cast list that is already bulging with testosterone would be one start.
So news out today throws a few more names into the ring with Chuck Norris and John Travolta joining up with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren and Mickey Rourke.

This believe it or not rumour comes from the head of a Bulgarian film studio where The Expendables 2 is to start shooting in September, so take it as you wish.

Simon West of Con Air fame will be directing this one and according to David Varod, CEO at Nu Boyana Studios he has already arrived and is working on the film.
Varod went onto say that he believes that the sequel is going to be better than the first. Coors ad comedian Jean-Claude Van Damme is reported to be playing baddie number two paving the way for Bruce Willis to take the helm at the front of the villain list.
We’re not quite sure where Travolta or even Norris fit into this but we’d expect Norris to join up with Stallone and co and Travolta take a villain role in the same guise as maybe Face/Off or Broken Arrow.

From Paris with Love – 2010

In Paris, a young employee in the office of the US Ambassador hooks up with an American spy looking to stop a terrorist attack in the city

Directed: Pierre Morel

Stars: John TravoltaJonathan Rhys Meyers and Kasia Smutniak

What we think: Luc Besson has given us some truly inspired action films and From Paris with Love is right up there, if you enjoyed Taken then this will be right up your avenue.

For the action nuts out there this might be your one opportunity to lull the Mrs. into a false sense of security, as the title would suggest this is hardly a romantic ensemble of any sorts. Despite the setting of picturesque Paris it merely sets the scene for sheer carnage – guns, explosions, car chases and bazookas.

Director Pierre Morel is right at home here, having helmed two of the Transporter films which simply showcase amazing stunts and breathtaking action scenes which over shadow a completely ridiculous plot. And From Paris with Love has just that, Travolta teams up with the fresh faced Jonathan Rhys Meyers to hunt down and stop a terrorist attack.

It jumps about a bit, one minute they’re bringing down a Chinese drug ring which ties into a trip to a terrorist cell and then finally onto a meeting of high ranking delegates. Travolta and Meyers are well suited to each other, one off the planet the other a methodical thinker who enjoys chess and speaks Mandarin.

It seems to be a chance for Travolta to really let his hair down (or lack of it here) and play a character so far from reality that you wonder how he’d have ever got passed the interview stages. But he is a refreshing change to all the other stright faced super spies we’ve had over the years.

Its over the top but its a film to sit back and enjoy, and as the credits role you can only think about an impending sequel…cest bon!!

Bolt – 2008

bolt

You can’t go far wrong with animation these days and it has come a long way the last 20 years. Bolt is a lovable dog and the star of a major TV series, when he gets separated from his owner and co star he must travel the length of the county to be reunited with her.

Thinking that he has super powers as possessed in the show he must battle the elements to reach home. Along the way he meets an alley cat and an over excitable hamster who show him what the true value of being a dog is all about. It’s a heartwarming story and not just for the children, a lot of animated films are targeting the adults with in jokes.

While Bolt might not have all the style of Pixar it will certainly be a huge hit! And had some great laugh out loud moments.
