Expendables II Trailer Explodes Online

Well it’s the trailer that every action fan in the world has been waiting for, and oh my god its a beauty!!

Packed with even more testosterone that will surely have you nailed to your cinema seat the trailer gives a little more insight into how badass the film is going to be!

What’s great about it? Well….Willis as the main villain, the return of most of the previous cast including Stallone, Statham and Li new recruits, Chuck Norris, Van Damme and the piece de resistance big Arnie equipped with even bigger gun.

The plot details are still unknown but we’re pretty sure it will centre around a susicide mission for our heroes and some of the most ridiculous action sequences ever.

Simon West of Con Air fame will be directing and he has experience of bringing together big name actors in a balls and all action epic so we’re pretty sure this one is going to be just as good if not better than the first.

Expendables 2 is out in the States late August next year, so expect it to hit UK cinemas some time after that!

Check it out…

Expendables 2…something to get excited about!

Since we first heard about Sly Stallone’s testosterone fueled epic The Expendables, every action fan the world over was guessing as to who was going to be in it.

All was revealed last year, and it was a cast list that wasn’t it the slightest bit disappointing. From Statham to Li, Lundgren to Stallone himself and even Bruce Willis and Schwarzenegger popped in for one if the best film cameos I have ever seen.

If the film’s lack of script was an issue then the bangs and whistles that followed made up for it.

Of course the minute the end credits rolled everyone was thinking sequel, and Stallone is not one to leave his army of fans wanting more for too long.

With pretty much all the cast coming back, even the dead Steve Austin (alegedly), the rumour mill churned into life about which new action heroes would join up.

The first name to appear was no real surprise, having original turned down the roll in the first film. Since Jean Claude Van Damme graced T.V. with a somewhat cringe worthy fly on the wall docu series recently, he has been keen to get back into a film that has the potential to be a box office hit and not a stright to DVD flop.

News today reports that the Muscles from Brussels is officially confirmed and from what Sly is saying they will have a mouth watering showdown that might see the trademark round house kick used to its lethal ability.

Speaking to Entertainment weekly Stallone said: ““We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one.” We don’t doubt that for a second.

Also confirmed is Chuck Norris, a cult hero himself he’s not been in a full feature since 2005, and is more well known for his T.V. series Walker Texas Ranger. Of course as an 80s action icon he’s just about killed and blown everything up you could possibly imagine, and we’re pretty sure he’s going to be one of the good guys.

Sly also said: “We’re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot.

So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them. We also need some new blood in there, a Navy Seal-type, because with the Expendables none of them have 20-20 vision anymore. They need some help, man.”

Stallone seems to be casting a wide net in his search, with Twilight’s Taylor Lautner another name to be mentioned. Lautner is probably looking to break free from the girl screaming Twight franchise, and I don’t blame him. His new film Abduction looks good and casts him in a Bourne-esque type role.

Lastly two of the worlds biggest action stars are also confirmed to reprise their roles, that short scene reminiscent of a meeting at Planet Hollywood will see Willis and Schwarzenegger back! As to how much screen time they are going to be getting is anyone’s guess but we’d hope its more than a couple of minutes.

Simon West is on to direct, and he has a few films that boast extreme action most notably Con Air so expect the unexpected!

That scene!!

The Expendables – 2010

This film should come with a government health warning, for excessive amounts of testosterone! This is probably the pinnacle of action; can it get bigger than this? Well I really hope so, fingers crossed there’s a sequel.

Not everyone will of course share my enthusiasm for this film, many people will call it over the top, and some will say that most of the action heroes look far too old to be jumping around. And to be fair you’d be right when the average age of the cast ranges between 45 and 65. I however, call it one of the best action films of the last decade.

Now that might sound like a big statement to make, but I stand by it, and here’s why. I love action, from Predator to Rocky, Die Hard to Romeo Must Die I always wanted to see all the big stars on the same screen together.

Stallone is my action Jim’ll fix it! He managed to get himself and two of the biggest action legends together on screen for the first time, and although it was only for a few minutes, I had a smile from ear to ear. Not to mention the others he rounded up. Li, Statham, Austin, Couture, Lundgren.

It’s a simple plot; a group of mercenaries each with different backgrounds are hired to take down a vicious dictator (David Zayas) and his rogue CIA connection (Eric Roberts). Stallone’s screen play is not the best, but his direction of explosions, car chases, and fight scenes is pretty breathtaking.

When things aren’t exploding and South-American soldiers aren’t getting cut to pieces by machine gun fire the film follows certain personal anguishes. Statham has women trouble, Lundgren has trust issues, Rourke relives past battles and Li simply would like to be taller with a bigger slice of the pay cheque.

Stallone acts like some kind of agony aunt, always popping up in the right place to offer his advice and support where he can. But all this acts as padding before the films big climax….which is big!! Just when you think it is calming down it suddenly ramps itself up another notch.

At the end of the day the film does exactly what it was intended to do, entertain us! Action fans everywhere are going to love it, for there isn’t much to hate about it. It’s not there to win any Oscars but it certainly is there to answer a few lingering questions.

Just who would win a fight between Lundgren and Li or Stallone and Austin?

Stallone the Expendable

Sylvester Stallone, is there anything that this man cannot do? Despite his age he just keeps going and going and shows no signs of slowing up as he gets ready to put the final touches on his latest action blockbuster The Expendables.

The Expendables is every action fans dream with an all star cast that includes Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and Dolph Lundgren amongst others. As well as cameo appearances from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Stallone leads a team of mercenaries in an attempt to bring down a villainous dictator in Brazil, a simple story with an explosive outcome. It was also a chance to pit an array of action talent on screen together for the first time, and I’m sure it won’t disappoint.

Writer Director Stallone is not shy to putting himself through the wringer, he takes his roles on very seriously and makes an attempt to do a lot of his own stunt work. In The Expendables, his fight with fellow cast member Stone Cold Steve Austin ended with him needing a serious operation after he received a hairline fracture in his neck. During the Rocky franchise Stallone was always a big fan of realism, so taking full punches was certainly going to deliver on that as he found out when shooting alongside Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV.

Stallone speaking to FHM Magazine said about working on The Expendables, ”Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other’s ass, one guy tougher than the next. ‘No joke, our stunt guys were begging for mercy”. He now has a metal plate in his neck!

Stallone is a passionate filmmaker, actor and a very accomplished script writer. But as with any actor he has been guilty of starring in a few films that have not quite made the grade such as Judge Dread, Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot and possibly Driven. I’m sure a few people could name a few more but what the films lacked in having a water tight script they made up for on pure entertainment value and at the end of the day that is what making films is all about.

Stallone is not stopping here, the next installment of Rambo is in production which will be out in 2011 as well a remake of the Charles Bronson classic Death Wish in which he plays vigilante Paul Kersey. There will always be an ongoing project in which Stallone will be very much a part of. He is someone who I loved to watch as an action fan growing up, it would be an amazing experience to meet the man himself but if that day ever comes pinch me to make sure I’m not dreaming.

The Expendables is out in the UK sometime in August 2010.

War – 2007

Solid ActionThriller

Solid Action Thriller

This was a lot better than Statham and Li’s last outing together when they were mismatched in ‘The One’.

This at the least had a plausible storyline twinned with great action and fight scenes finished off with a nice little twist that even I didn’t see coming.

Jason Statham has established himself as one of Hollywood’s new action heroes and has made some cracking action films, you know the ones where we don’t really care too much about plot or storyline. We just want to see Statham kicking ass, maybe it’s because he’s a Brit making it big!

Jet Li needs no introduction and has cemented himself into cinematic folk law following in the footsteps of the late and great Bruce Lee. Here he matches his quick hands and fast feet against Statham’s rugged brute force.

It’s a plot we have all seen before at some point, ‘cop avenges partners death’ but it is a common storyline that works well if done correctly, and here it has been.
