Jason Statham for Transformers 4

Well the rumour mill churns out and never ceases to surprise us, as reports this morning suggest that Brit hard man Jason Statham could be about to take over the lead in the Transformers franchise.

With Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf moving off to other projects Paramount are clearly keen to keep the highly profitable films going for just a bit longer.

According to Showbiz Spy, the Transporter star is poised for the lead in Transformers 4, and will look to take the robot crunching franchise down a much darker avenue, how that is done we’re not sure?

Take this as you will and too be honest we’d be very shocked if this materialised at all, as much as we love the Stath we’re not sure head butting robots would be his thing?

Killer Elite trailer online

Jason Statham is back once again and this time he’s up against Clive Owen, complete with dodgy tash.

Statham plays Danny Bryce a retired member of Britain’s Elite Special Air Service who makes a return to rescue his mentor, Hunter (Robert De Niro) and take down bad guy Spike (Clive Owen) while seeing off a number of deadly assassins.

It’s what the Stath does best really so there is no arguing that its not going to be balls-to-the-wall action, which will hopefully deliver a credible plot as well.

It’s director Gary McKendry’s debut feature so the jury will be out on this one until the final punch is thrown. No release date has been set yet, check back soon for more news.

Jason Statham on Crank 3 and The Expendables 2

Crank 3 and The Expendables 2, two films that we’d live to see made sometime soon!

While on promotional duties for his next action blockbuster The Mechanic Jason Statham caught up with Collider to discuss just what he thinks about said sequels.

When quizzed about the status of a possible Crank 3, Statham said: “It’s a shame the last one didn’t do that well. I think the first one had a little bit more success and usually if you do a sequel, it usually has to in some ways take a little bit more money than the first one.”

“It was absolutely nuts, which reflects exactly who those two [directors Neveldine and Taylor] are. I don’t know, whether we’ll do another one… Who knows?”

“Working with those two guys is not like working with anybody else. I mean, they are absolutely mad as hatters.”

Next up Statham was more than open to a phone call from Sly Stallone about the possibility of teaming up for another testosterone fueled action rampage in a sequel to the ever popular The Expendables: “Yes I have heard about a sequel and I’d be the first to say yes to a phone call from Sly.”

“I mean, we spoke about it as soon as the movie started to do really well and he says, you know, it would be great to do this again, and if there’s anyone who can do a good sequel it’s Sly Stallone! He’s done a fair amount.”

“Yeah, we had a good time. It’s something I’d like to repeat… I’m very positive that it will be going.”

So it seems there’s no chance of The Stath slowing down on the action man front.

The Crank movies were hard core off the planet action flicks, and we hope Neveldine and Taylor can muster up enough creativity to do a third.

The Expendables was all about capturing every action star on the planet, and while the plot was sketchy at best it was a huge hit with fans of the genre.

We there fore expect the sequel to be made and go one better than the original.

The Mechanic Red Band Trailer

For all you hardened action fans out there heres a little something to kick your new year off with a bang! A new trailer (slightly more hardcore) for Jason Statham’s film The Mechanic has appeared online.

For those that don’t know The Mechanic is a remake of Michael Winner’s 1972 Charles Bronson original, about an elite assassin who finds himself training the son of one of his victims, with of course troublesome consequences.

Statham is in the Bronson role obviously, and the apprentice this time around (it was Airwolf’s Jan-Michael Vincent before) is Ben Foster, with Donald Sutherland also on hand as Mr Foster Sr.

We’ve seen a couple of previous trailers already while it’s waiting for its release date. With that action hungry day finally approaching, this is the first clip to really get us excited.

The previous trailers were fine, but they were lacking in harpoons to the knee, bullets to the head, gratuitous sex and synchronised swimming…of sorts!

Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) is the director, and the film is unleashed on January 28.

The Mechanic – 2011

The film follows an elite hit man as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims.

Director: Simon West

Stars: Jason StathamBen Foster and Donald Sutherland

What we think: Jason Statham is back, and back with big bang! Having already starred in this years The Expendables you might be forgiven for thinking that his latest action film The Mechanic might be a step down in the testosterone ratings.

Director Simon West who after helming such action blockbusters as Con Air and Tomb Raider dropped off the radar a little with a number of TV moives. Now though he has brought us something which is really going to kick off the new year in some style.

From the trailer Statham is doing what he loves best, kicking ass and flexing muscle. There are some explosive scenes and hopefully there will be a credible story to go along with it.

The film itself is actually a remake of the 1972 picture of the same name which starred action hero of sorts Charles Bronson and a certain Jan-Michael Vincent (if we said Airwolf some of the older generation will know what we mean).

However some action remakes don’t always do the original justice, Assault on Precinct 13 is one example. But given the trailer we’d like to think otherwise and have our fingers crossed for the new year.
