Schwarzenegger considering number of films

“I’ll be back” those immortal words were reverberated through the film world when they left the lips of Arnold , and now after doing his stint in office the Guv’nor is back.

There is no doubt that he has had every script this side of Hollywood thrown at him, and I for one would love to see him back in the action genre among others.

Big Arnie has never ruled out a return to what he does best, and in an interview given at the Arnold Seminar, yes it would seem that there is such a thing, he revealed that he has around 15 offers to flick through.

Arnie said: “Well, first of all it’s more 15 films,” he reveals, “obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things.”

No surprise there then that he has been linked to some of his biggest franchises, but would a plausible script be good enough to temp him back.

He also stated that he is considering “a lot of original stuff” which includes bringing a comic book character to screen.

“I am also packaging a comic book character right now,” he says. “I’m going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April.”

As to what comic book character that might be would be anyone’s guess but we’ll wait with baited breath for that one to be announced.

Willis Talks Expendables 2

Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger made blink-and-you’ll-miss-them cameos in Sly Stallone’s testosterone fueled The Expendables earlier this year. But, there is the possibility we could see more of them in a potential sequel.

Well at the very most  more of Willis, if new comments from the Die Hard star are anything to go by.
“I talked to Sly and he’s going for all the marbles this time, and he’s going to get everybody in this time,” he tells Coming Soon.

“Even Stone Cold Steve Austin who took two bullets in the last film, he’s coming back, too. Hopefully, they’ll start shooting it while we’re young enough to survive.”

Willis was sadly under-used in the first Expendables, perhaps owing to his jam-packed shooting schedule.

If a sequel has any hope of success, it would mean rounding up every action hero that has ever walked the planet– and in particular, giving Willis a bigger role.

Luckily, Stallone himself has dropped hints that all could be a real possibility, and Willis seems up for the challenge. Now if only there was some way we could twist Arnie’s arm!?

Willis can next in Red, which opens on 22 October.

Raw Deal – 1986

It’s another balls to the wall action shoot em up, as big Arnie looks to bring down the bad guys.

What we think: If you’ve ever managed to get through all of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s films then you are doing pretty well, but some for me always seem to slip through the net, as in the case of Raw Deal.

First off this is not Schwarzenegger’s best effort in the action genre, even the slightly bad but so good Commando has a better success rating than this.

Mark Kaminsky is kicked out of the FBI for his rough treatment of a suspect and winds up as the sheriff of a small town in North Carolina.

FBI Chief Harry Shannon, whose son has been killed by a mobster named Patrovina, enlists Kaminsky in a personal vendetta with a promise of reinstatement into the FBI if Patrovina is taken down. To accomplish this, Kaminsky must go undercover and join Patrovina’s gang.

It’s a bit of a let down really, which normally I wouldn’t admit to being an Arnold fan, however sometimes the truth needs to be told.

Arnie’s classic one liners which really made him a household name are lacklustre “‘You’re under arrest.” “What for?” “Impersonating a human being” is no where near as good as “stick around” after he impails some poor bastard with a knife in Predator.

Of course the action is aplently and he spends a good amount of screen time destroying everything and anything in his path in order to get the job done.

If you’re die hard Arnie then it’ll be worth the watch.

Cameron Thinks True Lies TV Series

James Cameron always one for a new and exciting project is looking to transform his 1994 action blockbuster True Lies into a TV series.

It seems that the concept of a True Lies series is currently being shopped around the US networks, in the hope that it could do slightly better than Cameron’s last attempt, Dark Angel.

The explosion-racked movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Harry Tasker, a family man by day while leading a double life as a government operative, but he has to hide it.

When Harry’s bored wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) gets caught up in one of his operations, she’s pulled into his world in somewhat hilarious circumstances.

Talk of a True Lies 2 had been thrown around Hollywood for years, but now it seems Cameron thinks the future lies in the small screen.

Dark Angel, which starred Jessica Alba as a lab experiment action heroine in a futuristic dystopia. However, after a dire second season, the show was cancelled by network Fox.

Do you think a True Lies TV series would be good, leave a comment and let me know.

The Greatest Action Hero: Semi-Finals

So here we go, one face off away from the final and the chance to see which two action heroes are going to go head to head in search of the title of ‘Greatest Action Hero’

The last round again threw up a few surprises with Mel Gibson still the dark horse amoung sure fire favourites Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Van Damme.

Semi-Final

Jean Claude Van Damme Vs Mel Gibson

Take your pick guys, these two have been involved in more explosions, more gun fights and more carnage than most other actors. Each time they pick themselves back up and do it all again.

JCVD, as we have already covered, set the early 90s alight with an array of brilliant action films including Timecop, Hard Target and Sudden Death. But did stumble a little starring in some horrific films, and by horrific I don’t mean the genre.

He is though a very solid action film icon, he had the looks and the physique and as for his martial arts skills they were very much authentic. For me though his best film was Bloodsport, which was based on a true story of a martial arts fighter called Frank Dux. Dux trained harder than most in order to take part in the Kumite, one of the most vicious martial arts tournaments in the world.

The film depicts his life growing up, and a young Van Damme does a pretty good job of that. The fight scenes are for there time a little dated but you get the idea.

Gibson to be perfectly honest has thrown it all away in the last few years. Booze, arrests and worst of all, as if he couldn’t sink much lower…racist slurs. There was a time when he was Hollywood’s golden boy, one of the go to guys for big action or epic blockbusters, and its that Mel we shall focus on.

He’s a director now of sorts but he has starred in some pretty big grossing action films. I always go on about the Lethal Weapon franchise but for me that is still his best work. But it was Mad Max that really launched his career, and it spawned another two films as well.

Other notably and credible action films were Bird on a Wire, Payback and to some extent The Patriot. All this cannot mask the fact that he has somewhat shafted himself, and while he might have clawed some credibility back opposite Ray Winstone in Edge of Darkenss it’s not enough here.

Result: Van Damme, still churned out some of the best action films of the last two decades. And at least kept some of his dignity while doing it.

Sylvester Stallone Vs Arnold Schwarzenegger

Many people were probably expecting this to be the final show piece, but sadly one of the favourites is going to have to make way for the others walk to the final.

How do you even start to compare these two titans of the big screen. Both have made billions for the box office, and starred in some of the most defining films of recent years.

As we have already seen they have also been a part of some absolute shockers, but we’re not going to bring those up again, Estell Getty? Really Sly!?

Friends for many years but also fiercest rivals with one attempting to outdo the other. Rocky Vs The Terminator, Rambo Vs Conan the Barbarian, Stop Or My Mon Will Shoot Vs Junior, OK I said we weren’t going to rake up old graves. Either way they are pound for pound two of the greatest action heros ever to set foot onto a film set.

Stallone is a himself a writer and director having been nominated for best writing/screenplay for Rocky he also got behind the camera for Rambo. But he wrote screenplays for some real action classics such as Cobra, Cliffhanger and more recently in The Expendables. Despite what people say about his acting talents he’s been a work horse all the way through his career and that must be commended.

Schwarzenegger was Mr Universe, a man mountain of muscle and landed his first role in Hercules in New York as Hercules himself. It was for The Terminator though that his career really took off as he slowly developed into an action icon.

Schwarzenegger never wrote anything and the only most note worthy thing he directed was a piece for TV called Christmas in Connecticut, along with an episode for Tales from the Crypt. He won’t be best rememered I doubt for either of those. Acting wise he wasn’t the best, his slow Austrian drawl was at times laughable in some of the films he starred in.

But he was a character, a giant amongst men. His films have received cult status, and most fans can sometime or another quote from a long list, “I’ll be back!” and “Kill me I’m here!” to name a couple. A tough choice being two of the more popular action stars, but there always has to be one winner and one loser.

Result: Stallone, they both had a number of successful classics but Stallone’s writing talent (or lack of it if you’re a more hardened critic) have edged this one for him.

Check back here soon where we’ll reveal who claims the title of Greatest Action Hero!
