Gripping!

Gripping!

Notes on a Scandal is an exceptional film on every level, with a stellar cast this will have you turning away but still gripped enough to watch. When reclusive school teacher Barbara (Judi Dench) befriends new art teacher Sheba (Cate Blanchett) she thinks she has found a lifelong friend.

But when she discovers Sheba’s infidelity with a 15 year school boy she is torn between the relationship she craves and the truth that must come out.

Notes on a Scandal is a film that portrays a storyline seen on a few occasions in real life, and is one that might make a few people feel uncomfortable. But get past that and you can enjoy what is a tense British thriller. Dench is in a class of her own as a devious evil fiend and yet displaying a caring bedside manner.

Blanchet too stands out as the adulterer stuck in what she classes as a loveless marriage. They are both supported by Bill Nighy who also gives, I think one of his best performances.

It’s a film that treads on dangerous narrative ground, but one that will deliver on sheer British brilliance!
