Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D – 2008
I was pleasantly surprised by Journey to the Centre of the Earth , Brendan Fraser was on top form, playing a scientist instead of an archeologist. The 3D aspect really made the film as well, and if you can watch it on Blu-ray then you’re onto a high definition winner.
Scientist Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) and his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) travel to Iceland, following Sean’s long-missing father. With guide Hannah (Anita Briem), they are trapped in a cave and forced to follow Jules Verne’s perilous route into the centre of the Earth.
What is not to love about a childish 3D adventure, dinosaurs, killer flying fish, humming birds and so much more. There are some great sequences including an underground mine cart ride which should not draw on any comparisons to Indiana Jones (although I would imagine there are some critics who will), it’s a winner in its own right.
The story in itself is a bit thin, and the support cast is not as good as what it probably could have been, but that should not detract from the visually stunning effects and overall enjoyment that this film provides.
