Haeundae

A solid effort for Asian film here, in this part of the world films are huge. As with Hollywood certain ones have a cult following. Haeundae or Tidal Wave as it is called was one that reading the blurb sounded good but 30 minutes in I was ready to turn off.

However, I persevered and gave it a chance and after a very shaky start it came into itself and the drama began to unfold. You get a sense of realization that this scenario is certainly very much a reality, as we saw from the Tsunami that hit a few years ago.

And that is where the plot is centered, Tidal Wave follows a number of different people in various life situations and how they cope with the effects of a mega tsunami which hits the city. But at the same time it is a love story where the characters overcome personal loss and anguish.

The acting is hardly Oscar material and the special effects while good are not hitting the bar set by the western world. But if you have the patience for foreign film then this is a good start on that path.

DVD Extras: As one would expect not packed, and all that this has to offer is a rather poor trailer
