Doghouse – 2009

I don’t think you can really beat British film, not when one contains icons such as Danny Dyer, Noel Clarke and Stephen Graham. No matter how ridiculous the plot is, we can still find it entertaining.

Doghouse is ridiculous, when five friends head to a remote village to help a mate get over a painful divorce, they discover the local women have been infected by a virus that turns them into rampaging cannibals.

This was the film that Lesbian Vampire Killers probably wanted to be and Doghouse does a much better job than the latter, for one it doesn’t have James Corden in it!

The zombified females range from a hairdresser complete with scissors to a butcher with a huge cleaver. You also get the token school girl and even a lolly pop lady. The lads wonder what on earth has infected the ladies, with “bird flu” being aptly quoted as one possible.

Of course the males get picked off one at a time in gruesome circumstances, or not, as in the case of the only gay guy in the village who feels the full force of a zombie heavyweight. Dyer is at his cockney best “the ladies love me” which seems a good idea as any for his so called mates to use him as bait.

The film basically highlights the fact that most men are in fact useless, and even throughout the bombardment of women killers they still find time to try and rate the most attractive “forget it, she’s married” to reliving childhood memories by playing with toys in a toy shop.

Director Jake West still manages to keep it from drifting out of the horror genre too much with good scares and suspense that will keep the audience on a knife edge.

Overall its a good laugh and should be given a chance to prove its worth.
